PCOS and pregnancy

Would you like to know if pcos and pregnancy are compatible?

First of all, we’ll start with a brief overview of the condition commonly known as pcos. The full name for pcos is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and it is a health problem that can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, their ability to have children, their hormone levels, their heart and blood vessels, and appearance. It is the most common cause of female infertility with about one in ten women suffering from the syndrome. With Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, women can tend to have high levels of androgens (These are sometimes called male hormones, although females also make them), missed or irregular periods and many small cysts in their ovaries.

What causes pcos?

Although the cause of pcos is not currently known, most researchers believe that the syndrome does run in families as most females who do suffer from it have a mother or sister with the problem as well.

It is a common question whether pcos and pregnancy are compatible and there is a wealth of information available from various sources at present on the internet. The good news is that pcos and pregnancy are compatible to a certain extent as it IS possible to become pregnant if you have the syndrome, however, statistics show that women with PCOS tend to suffer a much higher rate of miscarriages. It is estimated that women with PCOS have about a 45% chance of miscarriage although some believe the figure may be higher.

Help with pcos and pregnancy

Stabilizing hormone levels can help fertility by promoting ovulation. Some doctors may also prescribe ovulation medications, such as Clomid, to encourage ovulation (see more in our section on Fertility products to get some information on Clomid). However, it is important to note that not all of the medications used to help PCOS sufferers are safe to use during pregnancy and may need to be discontinued.

It is encouraging to know that pcos and pregnancy ARE compatible and with some definite lifestyle changes and even the courage to undergo extra medical attention or fertility treatment to conceive, it is possible to become pregnant. Our Pregnancy Miracle product, a holistic and ancient Chinese system for getting pregnant and having healthy babies is a great place to start. It can give you an overview of fertility information as well as some very important factors that your regular GP may not disclose to you. Because it is extremely cost effective and is downloadable immediately, we highly recommend using the product in conjunction with your doctor’s advice. The information has been life changing for women with endometriosis, with tubal obstruction, with uterine fibroids and for women with ovarian cysts or ‘lazy ovaries’.
